Anthropometrics in design is how people react and ‘fit’ with
the world and space around them. I see this in the way chairs are made. I would
say chairs successfully fit when it comes to matching the human and the chair
design. If a chair has a very straight back, it would be promoting posture and
would be more comfortable to those with good posture. On the other hand, when
looking at a lounge chair, it was made and designed for someone to lounge in
and did not value posture for this setting and furniture piece.
A specific design I would say is successful would be this
desk chair that is similar to the one used in my room. This is successful because
it allows good posture against the desk for writing and typing. It leans back
slightly with pressure allowing a little bit of slack on the person sitting.
The adjustment bar allows this chair to be more successful in fit so that
anybody, any height, and any size can sit comfortably.
