This theory is the easiest for me to understand and I believe is the most true. I do not see many people disagreeing or arguing about this idea Stewart Brand presented. The The 6 S's: site, structure, skin, services, space and stuff, make it clear and simple the layers of any given building. I would agree and say that all of these evolve. some change more than others, and some are made to last. Once a building is made, the site and structure stay the same for the longest period of time. People can change the materials made, the electrical, the design, and the stuff inside to cater to any person but the original building and plan is still in tact. I see this a lot on the television channel HGTV. The home renovation takes place and drastic changes are made from the design standpoint and from the overall look of the home. Never once have I see the site or structure and shape of the house look any more different.
When looking into this theory and Stewart Brand's thoughts, I agreed and pictured the changing of an antique family home. It looks one way in the history of the family but as it is given to newer generations, it becomes to look more modern. It is constantly being changed to fit the modern of that day. The site and structure remain the same but the services are updated, the space is redesigned and sometimes completely redone, and all the stuff inside has come and gone with each now who has lived there. I would agree and say that any given and named building has changed from time to time in some way. But certain aspects remain the same from the beginning and will until the end.
